Pacific Northwest
Location: Washington
I had about a week and a half off from work and no plans at the start of June 2017. What I did have is a car, camping gear, and gas money. A couple of weeks before I had this time off, I started preparation by simply deciding which direction of this country I wanted to head. Olympic National Park ended up beating out a Grand Canyon/Southwest trip (that one still hangs on the board unfortunately). I wanted to walk on mile long beaches, and it had been years since I last saw the ocean.
It took me a couple of days to make it out to Washington. I stopped in Seattle to visit an old friend who gave me a worthy tour of the city along with a couch to crash on. Soon I was picking out my camping spot at Kalaloch Campgrounds. I made it a few days before season reservations started up which meant very few people were around and there were open camping spots right next to the shore.
I shot a lot of good photos on this trip, but it doesn’t take much for me to remember everything by just closing my eyes and daydreaming. This was the first trip of any kind that I was truly on my own. I love adventuring with other people, especially with Katie, but there is something to be said about going on an adventure all alone. You are able to soak in every detail. There is nothing to take you away from your thoughts as you gaze across the landscape.
